Matthew 1 verse 20-21

During the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “Its a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: Take Courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.

Lord if it’s you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water. Come he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat and walked on the water to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, why do you doubt?

It was dark when the disciples were in the boat on the lake. They thought they saw a ghost. They were terrified and in fear. But it was Jesus. He said to the disciples not to be afraid as it was him. This message is not only being told to the disciples but to us as well. Whenever we have uncertainty or are unsure about what to do next in life. Don’t be afraid, just ask Jesus. He will show you the way every time. Trust and have faith. Never doubt his decision. The answer might not be right away, your question will be answered soon enough. Never doubt Jesus’s answer. Do not change it in any way to suit your situation. Have faith and full trust in him. I promise you, you will be amazed at how your situation will turn to the positive and fall into place.

Peter asked Jesus to let him walk on the water to him. Jesus said come. Peter actually got out of the boat and started walking on the water toward Jesus. Why could Peter walk on water? Because he had FAITH. Faith is the main ingredient we need to have as Christians. Faith is the conquer of all evil. In the book of Matthew Jesus told his disciples that if they had faith the size of a mustard seed (a mustard seed is 1mm in diameter) they would be able to move a mountain.

The problem is that we don’t have enough faith. Just imagine how your life will change if you could have just a tiny part of that mustard seed as faith with no doubt entering your mind. Unfortunately for Peter as soon as doubt and uncertainty entered his mind he started to sink. This is what will happen to you if you start to doubt. Faith leaves our hearts and doubt takes over then things go wrong. And we wonder why!

Then we cry to Jesus for help again after we have doubted his direction. Once again Jesus is there immediately to save us from sinking any further like he saved Peter from drowning.

Even Jesus sais to Peter You of little faith. Why do you doubt it? Therefore the importance of these verses is about faith. I can tell you that faith is so important and is a pillar of Jesus in our hearts. Let the pillar of faith stand strong and tall in your heart. Let it never be torn down. Amen.
