Matthew 1 verse 20-21

Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by men. I tell you the truth, they have their reward in full.

There is always going to be people in this world that have less than we have and need assistance with food, clothing, money, shelter, etc. Evin spiritual assistance. Jesus is telling us that when we help somebody. Do not be proud and help in front of other people. Do not go around and tell everybody what good you have done for someone.

You are only satisfying your own pride and ego. It is about the person you are giving to. Jesus is telling us that God sees and hears everything. Whether it is good or bad. The only person that matters is God. He is your salvation. He will see what you have done, and that is all that matters. As the scripture says in verse 4. ‘Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Everything we do on earth must be done according to scripture as this will lead us to salvation and eternal life.
