Matthew 1 verse 20-21

On hearing this, Jesus said, It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

Jesus was overhearing the Pharisees asking his disciples why he was having dinner with tax collectors and sinners? The Pharisees were concerned as the saw Jesus with sinners. They thought that he should sit with righteous people. Jesus told them that he is on this earth to find and heal lost souls. Souls that need direction. Souls that need to be shown the power and teachings of the lord. So they may become righteous people.

That is what he wants from us. To go out into the world and find these lost people and show them the light and the correct path to eternal life. Jesus wants us to be merciful. Meaning that people must have compassion and forgiveness towards other people. We need to have a soft and loving heart. Having a hard and proud heart is what Jesus and God do not like.

So this is a clear message to us. If Jesus can sit with sinners and share the Gospril why can’t we?
