12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Verse 12 To 13 My Commentary
Jesus was overhearing the Pharisees asking his disciples why he was having dinner with tax collectors and sinners? The Pharisees were concerned as the saw Jesus with sinners.
They thought that he should sit with righteous people. Jesus told them that he is on this earth to find and heal lost souls. Souls that need direction. Souls that need to be shown the power and teachings of the lord. So they may become righteous people.
That is what he wants from us. To go out into the world and find these lost people and show them the light and the correct path to eternal life. Jesus wants us to be merciful.
Meaning that people must have compassion and forgiveness towards other people. We need to have a soft and loving heart. Having a hard and proud heart is what Jesus and God do not like.
So this is a clear message to us. If Jesus can sit with sinners and share the Gospel why can’t we?
