The Salk Institute in La Jolla, California was founded by a Jonas Salk – the developer of the Polio vaccine – and they dedicate their work to finding the biggest advancements in human health.
Recently, they turned their attention to intermittent fasting and discovered something groundbreaking when it comes to fat-loss.
The researchers conducted a 100-day study using mice to measure the impact of different types of diets on fat-loss.
The mice were separated into two different groups. Group A were allowed to eat whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted.
Group B were also allowed to eat whatever they wanted. The difference was the Group B could only eat during a 9-hour window.
Here were the results:
The group of mice who ate anytime they wanted ended up gaining weight. That’s predictable.
But here’s what was shocking…

First, the researchers wondered what would happen if they took mice who ate anytime they wanted and made them consume all their food within a 9-hour window.

Yet, there was zero difference in body weight! Their hormones were so primed for fat-loss that they could cheat on their diet for two days with no noticeable consequences.

Italian researchers took 34 men and split them into two groups.

For 8 weeks, the men followed this diet plan and combined it with hard weight training three times per week.
Here’s what they found:
- Those who followed intermittent fasting burned an additional 200 calories per day – even though both groups ate the same amount of food. Their metabolism and hormonal profiles were raised leading to faster fat loss.
- In total, those in the intermittent fasting group burned 40% more fat!
- And most exciting of all, those in the intermittent fasting group had significant changes in their testosterone and IGF-1 levels, their insulin and blood glucose levels decreased and triglyceride levels decreased!

I am a 45 year old, husband and father of two
daughters. I have been battling my weight for over 28 years since I began
working in restaurants as a teenager. I quickly went from about 160 lbs my
junior year to 225 by the time I graduated. Over time, 225 became 240 which
